Interior Trends SS/2012 – Digital prints, luxury fabrics and a riot of colour!

Trends Part 1 - Prints get bigger, bolder, and brighter for next season.

Prints should clash and anything goes “if you can bare it wear it!”.  Dress your home in catwalk style this season!

Digital prints take centre stage

Some collections are almost edible with 50′s style exotic fruits and vegetables storming down the catwalk.

This season “Mix and match” is the antithesis of the 80′s co-ordinated look. Go for it!

Colour blocking is an important tool both in interiors and fashion. Mix pattern and paint to maximum effect, be bold and choose opposite side of the colour wheel for dramatic impact. Cuddle up on the sofa with an array of patterned prints. Beware – they must not be co-ordinated!

Luxury fabrics and prints are also key this season - add knit’s, lace, velvets, silks scarves and delicate brocade to add a tactile layer to your home. Anything home made is HOT! Embroidery, crochet, applique hand sewn items add a welcoming homemade cherished appeal. Light and feminine this is a flash back to post war 50′s make “do and mend”, only all grown up with a sophisticated twist.

Watch out for 50′s pictorial cotton prints teamed with small scale geometric patterns. Vintage cars, planes, palm trees and cartoons and animal silhouettes.

Single colour prints and frills?

Just as bold neon’s colours are a key theme so are the muted transparent sorbet shades once again. Think Chanel, Dior lipstick shades in rose and peach and nude. Fabrics are delicate and blowsy, chiffon and silk, romantic and whimsical. Layers are  important with perhaps even the odd frill making a come back?

Decorative embellishments add elegance and focus to key items. Embroidered hem’s and borders add  hollywood glamour and vintage style.

Whatever you have planned for your home in 2012 your sure to have a wide and varied choice on the High st. Take your time and choose wisely, a high price tag does not guarantee style. Good design if available at every price point in today’s interior market place.

Take a top tip from the catwalk and mix designer pieces with High street buy’s to create your own personal look.
